Visa 482 Business Plan

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), also known as the TSS visa, is a temporary work visa introduced in March 2018 to replace the Temporary Work (skilled) subclass 457 visa in Australia. The TSS visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a labour shortage position with a skilled foreign workers when they cannot find appropriately skilled Australian workers for the position.

The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482) under the Employer-Sponsored stream typically requires a business plan when the nominated position falls under the Medium-Term Stream. In this stream, the visa is granted for a period of up to four years and is intended for skilled workers who will be employed in occupations listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

To become an approved Standard Business Sponsor under this stream, the sponsoring business must provide supporting documents demonstrating its lawful operation, commitment to employing local labor, and non-discriminatory recruitment practices.

The sponsoring employer is required to submit a detailed business plan as part of the nomination application. The business plan should outline the company's profile, the genuine need for the skilled worker in the nominated position, and the strategies in place to support and develop the Australian workforce.

The business plan serves as crucial documentation to demonstrate to the Department of Home Affairs that the sponsoring company is genuine, compliant with immigration requirements, and has a legitimate need for the skilled worker. It should provide a clear understanding of the company's operations, industry analysis, and how the skilled worker's employment will contribute to the company's growth and success.

On the other hand, the Short-Term Stream of the Subclass 482 visa, which grants visas for up to two years, may not require a business plan. However, employers should still provide evidence of the genuine need for the skilled worker and demonstrate that the position meets all relevant immigration and employment requirements.
